Have you seen this meme that’s made its way around Facebook and Instagram lately? I can’t find the original source or author, but here’s what it says:
“The trees are about to show us how lovely it is to let the dead things go.”
I love this. But what I love even more is what happens after the tree lets its dead things go. It stands barren and vulnerable and still through months of freezing cold while those vibrant, freshly-fallen leaves very slowly turn brown and shrivel and then almost disappear. Those dead things decompose and become the very food and soil that nourish the trees’ growth and blossoming in the spring.
When we’re going through our own hard seasons; when we’re struggling to let go of habits, thoughts, actions, or relationships that aren’t serving us, let’s seek the wisdom of trees.
